The Grass is Greener Where You Water It

We live in a society where not feeling good enough and comparison has become problematic. Fitness goals are more about looking like someone else than improving our own health. We think the grass is greener on the other side.

The truth about life, health, and fitness is the grass isn't greener on the other side.

Green Up Your Own Grass

What needs to change is how we're viewing the scenery. Our attention should be focused on what's going on in our own yard. True health and happiness begin when you start greening up your own grass. If your focus is always on others, how can you love who you are and make the best of what you have? It's not possible.

Comparison is The Thief of Joy

Did you know that comparison is the thief of joy? True story. We will always be at different fitness levels, looks, and financial status and that's just how the world works. The important thing is to make the best of your life and what you have. Celebrate who you are at this moment, and work on becoming a better version of yourself moving forward. Why waste time worrying about someone else's grass and let the weeds infest yours?

Are You Happy With Your Health and Life?

I don't have the fanciest house, most expensive car, straightest teeth or legs but all that doesn't matter. Am I happy with my life and health? That's the question of importance. How about you?

Being over 50, there are many body changes occurring. I have inherited a few wrinkles and other things that go along with menopause. Do I think about my youth and admire others who are beautiful, of course. This doesn't mean to be unhappy with myself because I don't look the way they do.

Part of greening up my own grass is continuing to take care of my health and fitness. I see life as a beautiful gift and I respect it enough to take the best care of me.

Goals Are Different

I am not saying it's a bad thing to dream about wanting something, especially when it comes to improving your health. Goals are a good thing and fun to think about. Goals are quite different than comparing your life to another.

A comparison can rob your health and happiness, whereas reaching personal goals improve them. If our mind is focused on others having a better body, home, car, spouse, and the list goes on, we are unable to work on self-improvement.

Comparison is Skewed Vision

Thinking the grass is greener gets in the way of seeing your life as it should be. A constant gaze into someone else’s yard keeps us from taking care of ourselves. We lack the mental focus to become healthy people.

Did you know our comparison of others is often skewed? What you see isn't always the living truth. The physical view doesn't show unhappiness, debt, stress, or depression. Many people hide behind fancy flair and fake attitudes to mask being unhealthy and unhappy.

Change Your Glasses

When a change in your glasses takes place, your focus becomes clearer. You are able to finally see the weeds growing in the grass of that other yard. Comparison becomes obsolete and not the focus of your attention.

What has become important to you is greening up the areas of your life to improve your health and happiness. As it should be.
