Being fit is not a temporary condition but part of daily living. This means your choices ultimately define your health and fitness.

Your initial motivation may have been to get back into those favorite jeans, but that's not what fitness is all about. Fitness is a lifestyle.

Maintain Healthy Habits

You are what you do.

Unfortunately, many people settle back into unhealthy habits once goals are reached. That's not how fitness is supposed to work. Life is the event to be healthy for not wearing outfits or to look good in pictures. This happens naturally when you maintain healthy habits.

How can you create healthy habits to last a lifetime?

Have a Plan

Success happens when you have a plan. Think about when your energy is highest for workouts and the best time for healthy cooking. Schedule your workouts around high energy peaks and select a day that fits your calendar to meal prep.

Scheduling your workouts and planning days for healthy cooking helps you develop those healthy habits. What you do repetitively becomes second nature.


Readiness

Having a plan is great and being ready to follow-through is just as important. The following are just a few things to help during the week:

  • Have your workout clothes ready
  • Get to bed early to be well rested for exercise
  • Schedule your workouts on a calendar and don't cancel
  • Buy a crockpot 
  • Have your healthy foods ready to meal prep
  • Divide out healthy food portions into storage containers
  • Take your healthy meals to work in a cooler
  • Drink plenty of water

Living the Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle requires regular exercise and eating right. Some opt for using the 80/20 rule which allows for a few splurges 20 percent of the time. Others may prefer a more disciplined approach with the 90/10 rule. I find the 80/20 rule allows for a more realistic approach to being healthy.

Fitness is not about being restrictive but developing a solid foundation of healthy habits.

Healthy Feels Right

When fitness becomes a habit, the healthy behavior is done without thought. You just go through the motions naturally and it feels good. It's not stressful or complicated.

The choices you make throughout the day determine your fitness. When you adopt a fit lifestyle, it just feels normal. You don't think, you just do and it feels right.

You are living your best life and feeling great about it. Your body represents the life you are choosing to live.
